At the 2012 Allied Media Conference, I sat down with George Lavender from Making Contact to talk about reproductive justice (or the lack thereof) behind prison walls. It aired this week as part of a larger show on reproductive health behind bars.

Maryland General Assembly Delegate Jill P. Carter is one of the co-sponsors of a bill that, if passed, would prohibit the Maryland Department of Corrections from using physical restraints on pregnant women during the second or third trimester as well as during labor, transport, delivery or post-partum recovering.

It had its first hearing this past Tuesday (Feb 26, 2013).

The following essay comes from Sara Rodrigues, a prisoner at Albion Correctional Facility, a medium-security prison for women in New York State, close to the Canadian border. When Sara was sent to prison at the age of 16, she found her friend D there as well.

I'll be speaking (briefly) about gender, incarceration, resistance & multigenerational organizing this Tuesday afternoon (Feb 5th) at 3pm PST on KPFK.
