sad news...and two calls for action

3 Dec 2008

Greetings friends & supporters of Free Battered Women,

I am writing with several updates, and a request to support incarcerated survivor Ms. Maureen Carroll!

*Parole Reversal*

Sadly, on November 21, 2008, Governor Schwarzenegger publicly released his decision to reverse parole for Daisy Jane Benson despite the fact that the Board of Parole Hearings had found her suitable for parole. Free Battered Women joins with Ms. Benson and her supporters in grieving over the Governor's reversal. We remain committed to supporting Ms. Benson's freedom. http://www.freebatteredwomen.org/Alert_Daisy.html

*Support Maureen Carroll*

We are hoping to help secure the release of another survivor Maureen Carroll. Please take a moment to *send a free fax to Governor Schwarzenegger *at http://www.freebatteredwomen.org/Alert_Maureen.htmlurging him to release incarcerated domestic violence survivor Maureen Carroll.

Maureen Carroll has served 24 years of a 25-to-life sentence. The parole board has found Maureen suitable for parole for the *third* time (the previous parole grants were for a future release date of 2008). She needs your support to secure her release!

Maureen has not had any disciplinary write-ups for the past 17 years and has been very active in various organizations and self-help groups while in prison. Please add your voice to those calling for Ms. Carroll's freedom by sending the Governor a free fax at * http://www.freebatteredwomen.org/alerts.html *.

*Join the 9th annual Calls from Home radio broadcast for prisoners*
