Oklahoma! Justice for Oklahoma events in July!

SPIRIT is sponsoring two events in July for the purpose of bringing justice to Oklahoma women.

July 10, 2011 - 2 pm to 7 pm: Singing for SpottedCrow @ Istvan Gallery, 1218 N. Western, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Donations requested for the Patricia SpottedCrow legal defense fund in lieu of a door or entry fee. A "sentencing modification" pleading is due in this case in September 2011. Patricia SpottedCrow sentenced to 10 years in prison for selling $31 worth of marijuana. She had no prior convictions, no record, not even a speeding ticket in her past.

July 16, 2011 - 9 am to 1 pm: Justice for Oklahoma Women Rally @ the Oklahoma State Capitol, South Plaza. Oklahoma leads the nation in incarcerating women. We've had the talks, the conferences, forums and conventions, now is time for action! Meet us at the Capitol with Senator Andrew Rice, Josh Welch Attorney at Law, and Dr. Susan Sharpe of the University of Oklahoma Sociology Department will speak. Come join us in making a statement to the State that this injustice must cease.

For anyone wishing to be a part of the program, we are still seeking musicians, poets, singers, etc for the Rally on the 16th. Donations of bottled water and funds of a porta potty are also greatly appreciated.
