late news: incarcerated survivor Margaret Moore released from prison!

Because my website has been down, I wasn't able to post this earlier, but even a week and a half later, it's still worth noting (and celebrating):

from Free Battered Women:

It is with great joy that we announce that another domestic violence survivor has been released on parole from state prison!

Many of you know Margaret Moore who has been a leader at the California Institution of Women within Convicted Women Against Abuse. Margaret* *was released yesterday, Thursday January 14 after serving 27 years of a 26-years-to-life sentence for conspiracy to murder in relation to the death of her abusive husband. This was the *first* time that Ms. Moore was found suitable for parole.

Ms. Moore's freedom is the result of the hard work of many people who have supported her over the years. Free Battered Women especially would like to express our tremendous gratitude to our colleagues at USC Post-Conviction Justice Project.

Free Battered Women & the California Coalition for Women Prisoners wish Margaret much joy, strength, and courage as she begins the next stage of her journey.

Best,
Emily Harris
