DV survivor Myrtle Green released from prison

from Free Battered Women

Dear friends:

It is with great pleasure that we announce that another domestic violence survivor will be released on parole from state prison!

Many of you know Myrtle Green, a 77-year-old woman who has been a leader at the California Institution for Women during her 21 years of incarceration. Myrtle will be released this week, after the Board of Parole Hearings *finally *upheld her 2005 parole grant after reviewing it again last week.

Myrtle's freedom is the result of the hard work of many people who have supported her over the years. Free Battered Women especially would like to express our tremendous gratitude and deep appreciation to our colleagues Keith Wattley at UnCommon Law, and to Donna Wilmott and Heidi Strupp of Legal Services for Prisoners with Children's Older Prison Campaign, Attorney Rich Pfeifer and the University of Southern California Post Conviction Justice Project for their ongoing support of Ms. Green. We also would like to recognize Louise (Lulu) Williams, Myrtle's daughter, who has been central to the fight for her mother's freedom.

*To the family members, never give up! Always stay connected to your incarcerated family member; they DO need your support.* *To FBW and LSPC, UnCommon Law, and to those many people who helped me almost day-to-day make my mom's release possible, Thank You! You will always have my utmost respect and gratitude.?* Sincerely, Louise (Lulu) Williams, Jackson MS.

Free Battered Women wishes Myrtle much joy, strength, and courage as she begins the next stage of her journey and reunites with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

With gratitude to everyone working for incarcerated domestic violence survivors' freedom,
